PAINTING DEMOS

Starting with watercolor and tempera blocks enables teachers to address set-up and clean-up right away with young students.  Teachers create a system with menus, allowing students to set-up and clean-up their own painting area without assistance.  When routines are in place, liquid tempera and liquid watercolor can be added, with acrylics for older students.

Possible demonstrations for painting:

  • Setting up materials and tools and putting them away
  • How to use palettes to mix colors
  • How to work around and with mistakes
  • Brushes and brushstrokes
  • Content for paintings: how to choose subject matter (landscape, still life, portrait, animal, non objective)
